If your baby is around four weeks old or more, and they’re well above their birth weight, but you’re having trouble getting them to burp—try using a bit more firmness when burping. Many parents worry about being too rough, which is totally understandable! But sometimes, a gentle pat just isn’t enough. You may need to apply a little more pressure (within reason!) to help get that stubborn burp out. Of course, always be gentle and safe—don’t hurt your baby—but don’t be afraid to be a bit more purposeful with your technique.

Timeouts don’t have to be a big, scary punishment—they’re just a little reset button for your toddler! The key is consistency and keeping it simple.

Start early! If your little one is around 1 and needs a timeout, keep it short—just one minute for each year of age (so, 1 year old = 1 minute, 2 years old = 2 minutes, and so on). But here’s the most important part: make sure they understand why they’re in timeout.

When it’s over, bring them in for a little chat. Ask if they know why they had a timeout, explain why the behavior wasn’t okay, and guide them to apologize. Then—and this is the best part—end on a positive note! A simple “Thank you for listening. I love you.” and a hug helps them feel safe and loved, even after discipline.

Timeouts aren’t about punishment—they’re about teaching. And with a little love and patience, they can actually bring you closer!

Is Your Baby Eating Too Much? Or Not Enough? Let’s Find Out!

Your little one is growing fast in those first three months! One day, they’re taking just 1 oz per feed, and before you know it, they’re guzzling 4 oz like a pro. But how do you know if they’re getting the right amount?

Here’s the deal: Babies’ tummies are still tiny, and just because they fuss or cry doesn’t always mean they need more food. So how much is just right?

✨ Quick Formula:
Take your baby’s weight (in pounds) and multiply it by 2.5—that’s the total ounces they should get in 24 hours. Then, divide that by the number of feeds per day to get an estimate per bottle.

🔹 Example:
An 8 lb baby → 8 × 2.5 = 20 oz per day
If they eat 8 times a day → 20 ÷ 8 = ~2.5 oz per feed

If your baby is draining the bottle every time and getting hungry before 2 hours, try adding just 0.5 oz more per feed.

And remember, a feeding should take about 20 minutes, including burping breaks! Rushing through feeds can lead to tummy discomfort, so make sure to burp as needed to keep that little belly happy. ❤️

Baby still fussy but eating the right amount? It could be something else going on like reflux, gas, a possible allergy, or over tiredness.

Try these things and if it still didn't help, contact a professional like your pediatrician or newborn care specialist.

1. Pace feeding
2. Burping after every ounce.
3. A solid probiotic.
4. Find an appropriate schedule for your little one so they are getting the proper amount of sleep.
5. Tummy massages.

Baby sleep cycles are longer at night than during the day!

The most restorative and deepest sleep happens at night, typically peaking between 7–8 PM when your little one goes down for the night and lasting until around midnight. After this, sleep becomes lighter, especially by 3 AM, which is why you may notice more frequent wake-ups—particularly around that 5 AM mark!

If your baby has regained their birth weight and is feeding well during the day, consider skipping the dream feed to see if they can stretch their sleep longer than you expected.

Not only is this the deepest sleep, but it’s also an ideal time to give their hardworking tummies a break from digesting all that milk they consume throughout the day!

***However, if you are a parent who likes to dream feed because you like to get a good night stretch when you go to bed, I totally get it! Dream feeds can definitely be beneficial! Different methods work for different families!

If your baby wakes up just a few minutes after falling asleep and it’s not because of a burp or diaper issue, but they’re clearly still tired, try offering a few small sips of milk while they’re in bed. Sometimes that tiny top-up is all they need to drift into a deep sleep.

If they’re drinking more than just a little, it’s a sign they might actually be hungry. In that case, take them out, give them a proper feed, burp them, and then settle them back to bed. Happy snoozing!

• Newborn Stage (0–8 weeks): Swaddling is safe and effective for calming your baby and reducing their Moro (startle) reflex.
• Around 2–4 months: Most babies start showing signs of rolling over during this time. Stop swaddling as soon as they can roll to avoid suffocation risks if they flip onto their tummy.

Transitioning Away from Swaddling

If your baby still struggles with their Moro reflex but is ready to move on from swaddling, consider using a transitional product:
• Magic Merlin Suit: A cozy option that helps calm the startle reflex while allowing more freedom. However, once your baby starts rolling while wearing the Merlin, it’s time to stop using it.
• Zipadee-Zip: This is a great choice for transitioning from a swaddle, as it gives babies a sense of security while still allowing them to move their arms and legs freely.

Signs It’s Time to Stop Swaddling or Transition
• Your baby breaks free from the swaddle frequently.
• They attempt to roll onto their tummy or side.
• They seem frustrated or more active in the swaddle.

Tips for Transitioning

If your little one is fighting sleep for an hour or more, you can try a couple variations of a method called The Delayed Bedtime Method.

The Delayed Bedtime Method helps toddlers fall asleep by temporarily setting bedtime later, closer to when they naturally feel tired. Once they’re consistently falling asleep at this later time, you gradually move bedtime earlier by 15-minute increments every few days until you reach the desired time.

Delayed Method 1:
1. Start with their current natural sleep time, even if it’s late.
2. Create a calming bedtime routine to help them relax.
3. Once they fall asleep easily at the later bedtime, shift it earlier gradually (10-15 mins) every few days until you are back to original bedtime.

This method works because it aligns with their internal clock, reduces bedtime struggles, and helps establish a consistent sleep routine.

Delayed Method 2 (starting at regular bedtime):

1. Start their bedtime routine at their same regular time.
2. When they fight it, take them out of the crib, into light, and let them play.
3. Once you see tired signs, go into their room and try bedtime again.
4. Make note of their tired time, and make this their new bedtime the next night.
5. Assess how they do the next night and adjust as needed.

Make sure your baby is getting full feeds during the day.
👉 Pro tip: Multiply baby’s weight (in lbs) by 2.5, then divide by the number of daily feeds. For example:
A 10lb baby needs ~25oz/day. If they eat 7 times a day, each bottle should be ~3.5oz. So make 4 oz bottles during the day and see how they do!
